Aventura Ecuestre Rescue Horses

Aventura Ecuestre is a non-profit association that aims to help the horses in the region.

The Swiss vet Christina Ward and her team at Aventura Ecuestre have been helping horses in need in Tarifa, southern Andalusia, since 1994.

We have created our horse rescue association – Aventura Ecuestre” in order to help those horses that need us most.

Unfortunately, here in Andalucia we are repeatedly confronted with cases of neclect or injuries, as many animal owners still lack expertise and/or financial resources to properly care for their four-legged friends. Since 1994 we have been helping equines in need in the area of Tarifa and have been trying to positively influence the local attitude towards horse upkeep, training methods and also riding. Nevertheless, horses, ponies and even donkeys that deserve a more species-appropriate, fulfilling and halthy life keep ending up in our care again and again. Thus, we committedly dedicate our time, patience and passion to animal rescue in this area.

We’re almost always able to find space for our rescue cases and due to Christina’s experience in the veterinary field we are able to treat problems ourselves that otherwise would need expensive treatment by our local vets. Nonetheless, we also incur running costs, e.g. for special shoeing, medication or expensive supplementary feed. Unfortunately animal rescue is a bottomless pit and our financial possibilities are limited. Thus, we are dependent on external financial help.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

Adopt a rescue horse!

Rescue-Fohlen

Tarifa

All year round we have fantastic Andalusian horses that truly deserve a lush meadow and a great carer available for adoption. If you could imagine yourself giving one of our horses a suitable place for life, you couldn’t make us happier. We are grateful for every rescuehorse that is able to live a horse-friendly life and cherish all the reports and photos of successfully adopted horses and their new owners.

Become a Sponsor for one of our rescuehorses!

Finding sponsors that help with donations for individual rescuehorses is one of our main goals. All our horses get a vet check upon arrival and, if appropriate, are dewormed and groomed immediately. In addition to the comprehensive care provided by our farrier, we also take care of the often necessary dental treatment. The horses will then receive individually specialized muscle training until we can place them with the right owner at their final destination. Via Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook we give updates about our current cases and keep you informed about their condition and progress.

Donate for our work!

Any financial help is incredibly valuable for us. You could support us for specific treatments, such as deworming, dentist or farrier care, or for other incurring costs such as supplementary feed or medication. We also really appreciate any general donation that reaches us. Furthermore, we always need rain blankets, leg and hoof protectors, bandages and other material for horse care – so if you have some lying around that you dont use anymore, we’d love to open your package. But maybe instead of donating material things, you’d rather donate your time? Do you specialize in certain horse treatments, such as osteopathy, physiotherapy, hoof care or other? We’d be delighted to welcome you in our beautiful stable here in Andalusia.

Help us to find permanent homes for our rescuehorses!

Every horse we can place into the good hands of a loving owner is a success story for us. By helping us to find the right person for a particular horse, you also indirectly create space in our stable for new emergencies.

Buy things from our shop!

We sell handmade leather boots (www.spanischestiefel.com) as well as branded T-shirts from Aventura Ecuestre. The proceeds from our shop go to our rescue fund.

Come over!

You can rent a room in our stable, right on the beach and in the middle of the action here at Aventura Ecuestre and help us with our work. We are delighted about every guest who visits us at the Costa de la luz. For bigger groups we also rent a beautiful apartment on Christina’s farm La Rosa in the mountains.

Almonteño: A beautiful Lusitano stallion that arrived very emaciated and neglected. We were able to place Almonteño in an beautiful home in northern germany.

Pictures: Early January 2020 and early March 2020.

Ossy

Our rescue horse, that had to lie next to the highway for two weeks until we could rescue him after a long fight with the authorities. Ossy had a broken crown bone and did eventually recover with us.

Amira

This andalusian filly would not have survived the winter if we hadn’t bought her from her owner. It took her half a year to recover and she was finally placed to a nice home.

IA our rescue donkey :
IA -Benja the baby donkey has survived thanks to mare’s milk and IA’s substitute mummy Caro (milk bottle every 3 h – day and night) and has been brought back to the pasture to his mother in summer.

Donkey Benja, 3 weeks old, was brought to us because his mother had no milk. His ear tips were very necrotic and he was very weak, we had worried and sleepless nights because he wanted his bottle every 3 hours and his condition was still critical. IA’s substitute mom Caro did everything she could to get him back on his feet.

We also had a lot of fun with IA: catching baby donkeys on the beach or in the nearest beach bar. When he got bored in the stable, he preferred to join the bathing tourists and lay down next to them as if this was normal. Since you don’t see a baby donkey on the beach every day, “IA” soon became our summer beach star.

Pegatina

This Andalusian gelding was so thin at his arrival that one could count every rib. He needed a lot of build-up and ground work so that he could be ridden again without any stress at all. He was allowed to go to Switzerland where he still had some nice years.

Saphiro –  Still needs a sponsor!!

This beautiful black stallion with endless long mane was brought back to the dealer after 5 years of living as a movie star. I always get all the movie horses and arrange for them. Unfortunately I could not place Saphiro because he had a very bad crown joint arthrosis (shell), as well as severely overstrained vision.  So he came to us, was first built up and then operated on the crown joint. Since then he lives with us and makes many people happy.
